The robot is named ELEY. Nikkei reports the body in plain numbers. About 50 kilograms. Two fingers on each hand. Battery or cord. Not bipedal. It moves on wheels.

That shape matters. The feed loves a humanoid that walks like a costume. ELEY is built for the station, not the stage. It rolls to the work. It stays low enough to share the aisle. It does not need the floor cleared of people to look finished.

Yomiuri covered Toyota Motor Europe's September technology briefing in Brussels. The company is entering robotics in earnest. The robot uses physical AI. It imitates and learns human motion, aiming for skill on the level of the person beside it. The arms were built with human-like joints, plus a scapula axis for flexible contact work. Hiroki Nakajima, a Toyota vice president, said the firm wants to grow factory automation as a business and contribute to manufacturing.

Yomiuri also records the posture Toyota wants to sell later. Robot introductions often lean toward headcount cuts. Toyota frames ELEY as something that helps people, and aims eventual external sales at companies that share that aim.

The money follows the rebuilds. Nikkei reports that Toyota and its group companies plan to spend on the order of ¥1 trillion a year from 2028 on factory and robot renewal. The robots arrive as plants are torn down and put back up. Brick first. Partner second. Not a viral stride in an empty hall.
