You were not asked which browser it should open.

You keep your tabs. That sentence is not an accusation. It is a description of the hour you already have. A report still open. A form you meant to finish. Wednesday's Side Panel

On August 26, 2026, Anthropic put a browser inside Claude Cowork on the desktop app. When a task needs a website, a browser opens in the side panel. Claude navigates, reads, clicks, and types. It can fill a form. It can pull numbers from a dashboard. It can work a portal with no connector.

It is Claude's browser, not yours. Claude never sees your tabs, bookmarks, or passwords. Banking, email, and single sign-on stay out unless you choose to include them. You can bring other logins over site by site from Chrome, Edge, or Firefox.

Claude in Chrome still exists for the page you already have open. The built-in browser is rolling out this week to Pro, Max, and Team on macOS, Windows, and Linux beta. Once it lands, it is on by default. Enterprise admins can turn it on now.

Manisha Priyadarshini at Digital Trends filed the same split on August 26, 2026. Claude can open its own browser in the Cowork side panel and handle the web part of a task while you keep working. It never sees your tabs, bookmarks, or saved passwords.

Anthropic says the built-in browser carries the same prompt-injection risk as any agent in a browser. The company recommends starting on sites you trust.

The Next Web carried Anthropic's line as written. A lot of web tasks don't need your browser, just a browser, and now Claude has one. OpenAI shut its standalone Atlas browser this month and folded that work into a Work mode with a built-in browser of its own.

The pane opens. The clicks happen over there. Your tabs remain the tabs you kept. You were not asked which browser it should open. The default answered. You stay where you are.

The Tabs Are Already a Boundary

Keeping your own tabs is already a boundary. You did not have to earn that. You opened a page because the hour required it. You stayed because the work was not finished. That is not clutter. That is a room you were already in.

The default chose the other window. That is the melt: not your tabs, and not the second pair of hands. The unasked switch. You do not have to follow it. The coworker can fill a form in the side panel. You can leave the form you already started where you started it.

The light molt is smaller than a new tool. Stay with the hour you already have. Let the second pair of hands work in the other pane. Do not migrate your bookmarks to prove you understood the announcement. Do not empty the bar to look ready. The tabs you kept are the hour. The hour is already yours.

Call that an Isolation Shell. A quiet edge around the window you were not asked to leave. The default can open beside it. The edge can hold. Soft is how every member starts. The invitation is to stay with what you already opened, not to apologize for opening it.

Stay Where You Are

When the side panel opens, you do not have to follow it. The tabs you kept are still the hour. Leave them open. Finish the thing you were already in. The coworker can have the other pane.
